The Alpbach Valley was named after the Alpbach River, which flows through the entire valley. The valley begins in the municipality of Brixlegg. There is one main road that takes you through the entire valley to the town of Inneralpbach. Neighboring valleys are the Ziller Valley and the Wildschönau.
The highest mountains in the Alpbach Valley are:
Galtenberg (the Highest) (2425 m)
Sonnenjoch (2287 m)
Standkopf (2228 m)
Wiedersberger Horn (2128 m)
Schatzberg (1900 m)
Gratlspitze (1899 m)
Loderstein (1830 m)
Towards the south of the Alpbach Valley at Wiedersberger Horn, there is a family ski area with 3 cable cars and 22 chair lifts.
The "Wiedersberger Horn" and "Reither-Kogel" cable cars as well as the "Kramsach" lift are also open during the summer months.
In the summertime, the Alpbach Valley is a beautiful place to go hiking and walking along the network of trails and meadows - even with a baby stroller! Reith im Alpbachtal and Alpbach are two village that are both situated directly in the valley itself. Hotel Galtenberg is in Inneralpbach, which is located near the end of the valley in Alpbach.
We named our hotel after the highest mountain in the Alpbach Valley - Galtenberg. It is also called Galti or Alpbacher Matterhorn and at an altitude of 2425m, it is the highest mountain in the Alpbach valley and the second highest in Kitzbüheler Alps. The only other mountain that is higher is Kreuzjoch (2558 m). The immense Galtenberg mountain is located at the end of the Alpbach Valley and can be reached via Inneralpbach. In summer, it's easy to reach the top. The Alpbach Valley ski area is right across from Galtenberg Mountain and right next to the hotel. From the mountain peak, you have an incredible view of the Wildschönau and the entire valley.
