Alpbach (Austria)
![]() ![]() ![]() | Alpbach is located in the county of Kufstein in Tyrol within the Alpbach Valley at the foot of the 1898 meter high "Gratlspitz" mountain. The district of Inneralpbach makes up the end of the valley. Alpbach's history dates back to the year 1240. In the 1920s and 30s, this village was isolated within the valley, with no streets connecting it to the outside world. For this reason, it has preserved its many traditions and customs. The agriculture and mining in this area reached its climax in the 15th century. In the 1930s, the village of Alpbach was rediscovered for its tourism potential. In 1953, a building ordinance came into effect to preserve the traditional wooden architectural style. This made it impossible to build large hotel chains that are commonly found in touristy areas. For this reason, Alpbach has been officially recognised as the "most beautiful village in Austria" and the "most beautiful flower village in Europe". |
